What to Expect Ice Fishing

Thank you for booking your ice fishing experience with us at Silver Gull Outdoors!

Please have each adult and child/youths parent or guardian in your party complete the online liability waiver located here: https://www.silvergulloutdoors.ca/general-5


All anglers between 18 and 65 MUST have a valid Ontario fishing licence: obtainable here: https://www.huntandfishontario.com/

Some exceptions exist for veterans and on certain free fishing holidays.


Meet at Gull Lake 110 Moody Dr. Gravenhurst: rainbow trout, pike, panfish




Meet your guide at Moody dr. parkette (red google maps pin) on Gull Lake just north of Rotary park. Parking is free! Please have eaten a hearty breakfast or lunch and gone to the washroom prior.

On shore orientation: Waivers, gear/ clothing check, safety talk

Please ensure everyone has: proper winter boots, SUNGLASSES, warm winter clothing to be outside 3-6 hours (snowpants, winter coats, wool/ synthetic clothing layers, toques, mitts, gloves, scarf/ buff & SUNGLASSES). Also bring any required personal medications or needs. A small backpack and your phone for photos, are good ideas. Though close to the parking, we try to bring everything we need out on the ice.      


Walk out onto ice and get fishing!

Ice Fishing Shore Orientation

1.        Sign liability waivers

2.        Boots and clothing check: ensure everyone has proper winter footwear, warm winter clothing, and sunglasses. 

3.        Explain expected conditions for the day: weather, ice conditions, UV, …

4.        Safety talk: ice thickness, unexpected polar plunge (ice rescue), pocket personal meds, walk like a penguin, sun safety, cold injuries (frost nip/bite, hypothermia), listen to your body and tell someone, watch for ‘umbles’.  

Walk out onto ice: watch for safe hill/ice walking, on/off the ice conditions (pack ice?)  

Drill holes, Guide only due to insurance requirements.

Bait lines (max 2 per angler): licence : Conservation 2 trout, sport 5 trout per angler.  

Set up group tent + table for hot drinks and snacks.
