Field Leader Hiking/Paddling & Overnight

Get your Outdoor Council of Canada Hiking, Paddling, and Overnight Field leader certificates in one swoop. This is for aspiring or current outdoor leaders seeking certification in the OCC Field leader program to improve outdoor leadership skills. This combination course includes: 1 year membership in the Outdoor Council of Canada, up to 3 Field leader certificates (hiking) (Paddling) & (Overnight). This course is 40 hours of instruction over 5 calendar days. It is expected that participants are already proficient day hikers, calm water paddlers, and overnight backcountry campers. THIS IS NOT A "LEARN TO CAMP" COURSE. THIS IS A LEARN TO LEAD COURSE. Pre-requisites: Field Leader Hiking: No prerequisites, must be a proficient day hiker. Field Leader Paddling Prerequisite: A) Provide proof of paddling skills certification that includes rescues. Can include most verifiable skills certificates from Paddle Canada, ORCKA, or similar. There will be a $25 discount (refunded) for providing adequate proof of this prerequisite by Saturday June 9th, but not after. OR B) Conduct an in water paddlecraft rescue assessment on site. Field Leader Overnight: Prerequisite Field Leader hiking Schedule: Thursday May 28th: 6-9pm online virtual class time. Thursday June 4th 6-9pm Online virtual class time Saturday June 6th 9am-6pm: Field leader hiking / paddling field session Venue: Gravenhurst. Sunday June 7th 8am Overnight Field session Gravenhurst + travel to Backcountry access point in south Muskoka. Curriculum will go to 10PM at a backcountry campsite 1-3hours travel from an access point. Monday June 9th 7Am wake up. Course will be complete by 4PM at access point parking area.
