Learn how to reliably use map and compass as navigation tools for your outdoor adventures! No battery back-ups or charging needed!  These two Outdoor Council of Canada Get Outside technical skills courses are combined into one fun weekend of learning and activities. This course is open to everyone and there are no prerequisites required.  Beginner friendly and comprehensive, this course goes into detail on canadian topographic maps (NTS) and how to obtain them. Topics include route planning, elevation calculations, taking a bearing, following a bearing, setting declination + calculations, navigating with a bearing from off of a map, navigating a bearing onto a map, resection (aka triangulation, aka where the heck am I excercise) and of course practical orienteering practice. Location will be at the Bracebridge Library boardroom Located at 34 Salmon Ave and nearby outdoor venue spaces to be determined closer to the course date.  Dates: Saturday May 9th (Bracebridge Library) Boardroom & May 10th Outdoors at a local trail area near Bracebridge. Time: 09:00 am - 5pm both days
